A 10A test current is the industry standard, as per the IEEE Std 118 for winding resistance testing, balancing the need to rapidly saturate inductive motor windings while minimising thermal distortion. This test complements offline PD testing to identify insulation degradation, inter-turn shorts, and structural weaknesses for predictive maintenance.
