Line Impedance Resonance Analysis

Non destructive cable condition assessment for critical HV networks

LIRA

Line Impedance Resonance Analysis, or LIRA, is an offline diagnostic test used to assess the condition of power cables by analysing their impedance response across a wide frequency range.

Using a low voltage test signal, LIRA can identify changes in cable characteristics that may indicate insulation ageing, localised degradation, moisture ingress, mechanical damage, thermal damage, joints or other impedance changes along the cable route. This makes it a valuable technique for assessing cable health without applying high electrical stress to the asset.

LIRA testing can support condition based maintenance strategies by helping operators understand cable condition, locate areas of concern and prioritise remedial action before failures occur.
